Seldom SeneRecorder quintet Seldom Sene, formed in Amsterdam by Stephanie Brandt, Ruth Dyson, Eva Gemeinhardt, Hester Groenleer, and Maria Martinez Ayerza are a group of five musicians with a mutual passion for consort playing. With a combined interest in the interpretation and performance of both early and contemporary music, these highly skilled and dynamic young players each bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the ensemble, especially in musicianship and playing by heart.

Whilst searching for more unfamiliar repertoire, one of the first pieces to catch their attention was 'Seldom Sene'; an In Nomine by Christopher Tye – a work so full of beauty, precision, and eccentricity in its effortless development from lyrical consonance to remarkable rhythmic complexity that they felt that in naming the group after it, it would capture the essence of their motivation.

The musicians, from Germany, England, Spain, and Holland, met whilst studying at the Amsterdam Conservatoire and are also all members of renaissance double sextet; The Royal Wind Music  a unique recorder ensemble founded by Paul Leenhouts in 1997. Seldom Sene is fortunate to be able to perform renaissance repertoire on a 10 – piece consort made by Bob Marvin, with instruments ranging from a soprano to contra bass.

During the weekend of October 24th and 25th 2009 the group made their debut at the "Concours International d’Ensembles de Flûte á bec" organised by the Société des Amis de Arnold Dolmetsch in Le Mans where they were awarded the 1st Prize. In addition they were offered a concert in the prestigious festival at Prieuré de Mayanne, Dangeul during the summer of 2010. 2011-2012 is promising to be an exciting season for Seldom Sene. They recently received the Interpretation Prize (by unanimous vote of the five jury members) at the 17th International Chamber Music Competition in Illzach (France), and are very much looking forward to their up-coming recitals in Germany, Holland and France.
